Advent
As we journey through Advent we join with the different characters who made their individual journey to Bethlehem.
Week One of Advent: The first characters we meet are the Magi.
They are known for their wakefulness to the signs of the time. History isn’t sure of the length of time it took to make their journey, it may have taken many months or years. What we do know is they were determined to follow their heart’s desire and the star that led them by night, to the birth of a king.
Our symbol for this week is the STAR
We pray: Jesus, you are the ‘Bright Morning Star,’ guide us to the place of your birth. Amen.
Week Two of Advent: During our celebration of Eucharist we focus on the empty crib symbol of our hearts waiting.
We prepare our hearts through reconciliation to be a dwelling place for the Lord this Christmas as place straw in the crib expresses our welcome.
We pray: Lord, at you coming may you find our heart waiting and our welcome warm. Amen
Week Three of Advent: This week we focus on the Holy Spirit.
From the beginning of time the Holy Spirit is the breath of life, the creative energy of God. The presence of the Holy Spirit is always moving among us. The Advent-Christmas story draws us to stop… to reflect on the person of the Holy Spirit who moves among us …
We pray- Holy Spirit, stir our hearts to experience the mystery and wonder of this Christmas. Amen
Week Four of Advent: We focus on Mary’s journey to Elizabeth
‘Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit… We pray -Mary, as we prepare to celebrate your son’s birth, may we too hear your greeting and with you be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Together may we pray, “My soul glorifies the Lord, my Spirit rejoices in God my saviour’. Amen

St. Mary’s Cathedral Monthly Draw 2021 – 2022

Cathedral Draw
beginning
Wednesday evening
29th September 2021
for twelve monthly draws.
Dooley’s Garage, Georges Tree,
John McGrath, News and Chews,
Ms. Sheila Walshe and Sr. Mary Freeman
As you are aware, the St. Mary’s Cathedral Restoration Fund Draw has for the past number of years been a most welcome support of the Cathedral and a great aid in works undertaken therein. As I have noted before, I am taken by its beauty each time I come to celebrate Mass in your fine Cathedral. I want to thank the generosity of all of you in the parishes who do so much each year to support and encourage the draw. This draw in these past six years raised nearly €600,000. If you are in a position to support the draw this year beginning with the first of twelve draws on Wednesday 29th September 2021. Your support, as always, is much appreciated.
Bishop Denis Nulty, Apostolic Administrator, Ossory.
