As members of the Christian Faith, as a parish community, we begin once again our Lenten journey which celebrates the death and Resurrection of Jesus.
Lent means Springtime – a time of new possibilities.
It is that time of year when the cold earth gives way to New Life.
Lent offers us the opportunity to reawaken our hopes and dreams, to turn the earth of our life towards God. To sow new seeds of hope that will blossom into ‘New Life.’
Lent is, a time of God’s generosity, expressed in the unconditional love in Jesus. Love offers to carry our suffering, our pain, anxiety and sorrow. It is a time when Jesus clearly walks by our side and carries us when the road gets too rough.
Our Theme this Lent is “Walking the Way of Jesus in the Power of the Holy Spirit”
Throughout the five weeks of Lent we will focus on the gospel of the Sundays. A symbol of the Holy Spirit fitting to the gospel will be placed in the sacred space.
We pray, that together we will find the weeks of Lent renewing and life giving as we move toward the celebration of the Resurrection.

The Way

Following the Way accompanied by the Holy Spirit
In week three of Lent, we will hear: “The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us”. As we follow the way of Jesus, we are never alone. We are always accompanied by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
We also see the presence of the Holy Spirit with Jesus throughout His life.
The Holy Spirit’s presence is revealed to us in many ways throughout the life of Jesus, sometime through Light, Water, Breath, Wind, Healing, and New Life.
The Holy Spirit is all these things and more. The Holy Spirit is known as the creative energy of God. Let us walk with the Holy Spirit as we follow the way of Jesus this Lent.
Ash Wednesday and Sundays of Lent
Ash Wednesday’s gospel is about prayer. It calls us to build a personal relationship with the Father. How do we do this? The gospel tells us; “when you pray go to your private room and, when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in this secret place.” It is in stillness and silence that we will gradually become aware of Loving Presence.
The First Sunday of Lent invites us to walk with Jesus through the desert. Jesus is led into the desert by the Holy Spirit and there he is accompanied by the Holy Spirit as he encounters temptations or life choices that set him on his path. (Symbol: Holy Spirit)
The Second Sunday of Lent invites us to be present to the Transfiguration of our Lord. Here again, we see the Holy Spirit as Jesus is transfigured in (Symbol: Light)
The Third Sunday of Lent invites to be with the Samaritan Woman at the well. Here Jesus asks the woman for a drink of water and in turn offers her the (Symbol: Water of Life)
The Fourth Sunday of Lent invites us to be with the Blind Man who is healed by Jesus. “Jesus spat on the ground, made a paste with the spittle, put this over the eyes of the blind man, and said to him, ‘Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam.” Jesus’ actions of are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Fifth Sunday of Lent invites us to be with Martha and Mary as Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. Again, the words and actions of Jesus are permeated with the power of Holy Spirit. (Symbol: Bulb - New Life)
